Getting started
What Pactable is and how to begin.
What is Pactable?
Pactable turns a conversation into a legally binding agreement. You describe what you and the other person agreed to — out loud or by typing — and Pactable asks the follow-up questions, structures the terms, and writes the agreement. Then you send it, they review it, and you both sign from your phones.
How much does it cost?
Sending, receiving, and signing agreements is free. If that ever changes, we’ll tell you well in advance.
What do I need to use it?
To create and send agreements you need an iPhone with the Pactable app. The person you’re sending to doesn’t need the app — they review and sign in their phone’s web browser. Android is on the way.
Do I need to create an account first?
No. Open the app and start talking. We only ask for your phone number the first time you send (or save a draft), and we confirm it with a one-time code. After that, Face ID keeps you signed in. There are no passwords anywhere in Pactable.
Creating & sending
Making an agreement and getting it to the other person.
What kinds of agreements can I make?
Personal loans, selling or buying something, confidentiality agreements (NDAs), service and consulting work, roommate arrangements, and equity or option grants. If your situation doesn’t fit neatly into one of those, just describe it — Pactable will work through a custom agreement with you.
Can I type instead of talking?
Yes. Voice is the fastest way in, but you can type your side of the conversation at any point — including if you haven’t given Pactable microphone access.
How does the other person receive it?
By text message by default. Before you send, you can switch to email, or copy a link and share it however you like — iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack, anywhere.
What if the other person wants to change something?
They can tap Suggest Changes, note what they’d like different, and send it back. You’ll see their suggestions and can update the terms or keep them as they are. The back-and-forth can go as many rounds as it needs to.
How long do they have to respond?
Seven days by default. On the review screen you can change the response window to 3, 7, 14, or 30 days. If it runs out, you’ll both be notified and you can re-send the same agreement with one tap.
Can I take an agreement back after I’ve sent it?
Yes, as long as it hasn’t been signed. Open the agreement, tap the menu, and choose Void Agreement. The other person is notified and the record stays visible to both of you, marked as voided. Once both parties have signed, the agreement is binding and can’t be voided by one side.
Can I delete a draft?
Yes. Drafts that have never been sent can be deleted from the draft screen. Anything that’s been sent stays on the record — you can archive it to clear it from your list, and unarchive it any time.
Receiving & signing
When someone sends you something to sign.
Someone sent me a Pactable agreement. Do I need the app?
No. Tap the link and the agreement opens in your browser. Read the terms, confirm it’s you with Face ID or a code sent to your phone, agree to sign electronically, and accept. You can also suggest changes or decline.
Can Pactable help me sign a document someone else wrote?
Yes. Share the PDF to Pactable from your phone’s share sheet. Pactable reads it, gives you the gist, flags anything worth a second look, fills in what it already knows about you, and asks you for the rest. When it’s signed, you send it back from your own email.
Where do I find my signed copy?
Every agreement you’re part of lives in your vault in the app. You also get a PDF of the executed agreement by email, with its Trace attached.
Trace & legal
Why it holds up, and how anyone can check.
Is an agreement made with Pactable legally binding?
Pactable agreements are signed under the federal E-SIGN Act — the same law behind every major e-signature platform — with both parties’ identities verified and every step recorded. For most personal and business agreements, that’s as binding as ink on paper.
A few kinds of documents can’t be signed electronically under the law, like wills and certain family-law matters. Pactable isn’t a law firm and doesn’t give legal advice; for high-stakes or unusual situations, it’s worth talking to a lawyer.
What is a Trace?
Your agreement’s tamper-proof record: the exact terms, who agreed to them, when, and how each person’s identity was verified — plus every event along the way, from sent to signed. It’s append-only, so nothing in it can be edited after the fact. Every Trace has an ID that looks like TRC-X7K2M-4QR9W.
How can someone verify an agreement is real?
Go to pactable.io/verify/ followed by the Trace ID, or scan the QR code on the agreement PDF. No login needed. You’ll see whether the record is verified and when it was sealed — but never the terms, names, or amounts. Only the parties can see those.
What happens to my agreements if Pactable goes away?
They still hold up. When an agreement is signed, we register cryptographic fingerprints of it on the Base public blockchain. Keep your PDF and anyone can check it against that public record — no Pactable required.
Account & privacy
Signing in, your data, and getting help in the app.
I got a new phone. How do I sign back in?
Install Pactable, tap I already have an account, enter your phone number, and type in the code we text you. Your agreements will be right where you left them.
I changed my phone number.
Your phone number is how Pactable knows it’s you, so this one needs a person. Email support@pactable.io from the email on your profile and we’ll help you move your account over.
Who can see my agreements?
Only the people who are party to them. Agreement content is encrypted in storage and in transit. Public verification confirms a record is authentic without showing anything in it.
How do I delete my account?
Right in the app: tap your profile picture, scroll to the bottom of your profile, and tap Delete Account. Confirm with Face ID or your passcode and it’s done.
Agreements you’ve already signed stay on record for the other person — they’re part of their record too — and anything still waiting on a response is voided and they’re notified. Can’t get into the app? Email support@pactable.io from the email on your profile.
Something isn’t working. How do I report it?
Use the feedback button in the top-right corner of the app — it captures what we need to reproduce the problem. Or email us below with a screenshot and, if it’s about a specific agreement, its Trace ID.
